La Corse
France map

As we talked about in Unit 1, France is divided into 22 Régions. These regions are further split into départements.

Do you remember the région we talked about in Unit One? We talked about Provence--the region that is bordered by Italy on the east and the Mediterranean on the south.

In Unit Two, we are going to talk about La Corse, Corsica. This région is divided into two départements and is an island in the Mediterrean Sea.

Corsica is a paradise that rises up out of the Mediterranean. With so many activities to offer, it is a popular vacation destination for Europeans. Many people go to Corsica to hike challenging trails or enjoy the beautiful beaches. The island is also a popular diving area, home to colorful sea life. Among the other island activities are horseback riding, a variety of water sports, hunting, fishing, or a relaxing day at a spa.

Corsica's past is a turbulent one. With its proximity to Italy, France and Spain, the island has experienced dominations of all kinds. Go to this website to read about the history of Corsica. Write a brief summary of what your findings are and turn this in to your teacher. Ce devoir vaut 16 points.
