Biarritz, France
Also in the Region of Aquitaine, but further down the coast towards Spain on the Atlantic coast is the city of Biarritz. Biarritz is a city that attracts many people for the Surf Festival each year. More than 150,000 spectators come to Biarritz each year to watch this event. Surfers from all over the world gather at this event for a week of contests and fun. Biarritz is known as the birth place of surfing in Europe.
Biarritz is in the area that is also referred to as Pays Basque or Basque Country. The area became quite famous when the wife of Napoleon III fell in love with it and built a palace here. That palace is now a world class hotel.
