Section Two - Part B Rothenburg ob der Tauber The "Hegereiterhaus" - in the middle of the Spital courtyard, surrounded by plain utility buildings, is the charming Hegereiterhaus. It was built in the 16 century by the architect Leonhard Weidmann. Its pointed tent roof and the narrow, spiral staircase tower with its decorative lantern-like turret provides a charming contrast to the sober buildings surrounding it. The ground floor once housed the hospital kitchen, and the upper floor provided accommodation for the administrator of the hospital. The house's name is misleading, because "Hegereiter" was actually an employee of the imperial city who was responsible for Rothenburg's villages and estates.
