Section One - Part A
Due to Germany's low rate of home ownership in Europe, the majority of Germans live in a rented apartment or flat (die Wohnung) rather than in their own single-family house (das Einfamilienhaus). For many reasons, including high costs, only about 42 percent of German families own the home they live in, compared to a rate of about 70 percent in the U.S. and Britain.
|
Germans who do own their home often live in a condominium (die Eigentumswohnung) or row house (das Reihenhaus) rather than in a detached single-family house. Although Germany has a high standard of living, the costs of land and home financing in Germany, especially in larger cities, keep the German dream home (das Traumhaus) beyond the means of most people. |
Willkommen!
Welcome to a second semester of German II! Before we jump into new information, take some time to organize your study habits for this course.
- If you did not take the first semester of this course, begin to make a list of vocabulary that is new to you and find a way to study this vocabulary as you work through the course.
- Make a study journal that you can write notes in that you can use when you are outside of our class time together.
- Stay in regular communication with your teacher to ensure the best success for this course. When there is material that is unfamiliar to you, be sure to let your teacher know so that you can get some additional help for those areas.
