review Whew! After all that present tense stuff, let's review the future tense, which is very easy to make and not even used that often!

Pattern: = werden (conjugated) + infinitive (at the end).

Do you remember the forms of "werden"? See if you can fill in this chart. Hint: it's a stem-changing verb.

werden

duanswer (arrow) ihr answer (arrow)
er, sie, es answer (arrow) sie, Sieanswer (arrow)

How did you do? If you need practice, you can reload this page and try again at a later time.

Uses: The German Futur is used like the English future (with "will"), which means it's not used much! Both languages tend to use the present tense when it's already clear that the action is not going on at the moment. For example, we tend to say "I'm going to town this afternoon," (or even "I'm gong to go to town this afternoon") rather than "I will go to town this afternoon," unless we want to indicate some kind of special determination. German does the same thing. You'd be much more likely to hear "Ich gehe heute Nachmittag in die Stadt" than "Ich werde heute Nachmittag in die Stadt gehen."

OK, let's practice the actual future forms just a bit with this WordWeb.

Mach mit! (=TPR activity)
If you're new to these courses, the abbreviation TPR may be unfamiliar. It stands for a type of listening activity where you hear directions then point to or move something (with your mind and fingers, not the cursor). You then click to see what you should have pointed to or moved. This type of activity is great for learning vocabulary, because you use three senses (listening, seeing, touching), not just one or two. For most people, the more senses used, the faster (and better) something is learned. Most Units will have a TPR (listening) quiz connected with these activities.

Also, lernen wir einige neue Vokabeln. Mach mit!
