Bordeaux The capital city of the Aquitaine Region is Bordeaux. But Bordeaux boasts the name of a more important capital for the French--the Wine Capital. Victor Hugo said of Bordeaux that it was a curious, original and unique town. The area surrounding the city of Bordeaux, about 1000 square kilometers, is premium land for producing the best grapes to make wine that in France, must be made according to strict governmental standards. Bordeaux produces about one-third of the quality French wines. The wines are so good in Bordeaux that there is a Bordeaux Rating that is needed in order to classify the best of the best. The area around Bordeaux is also home to some seven thousand chatêaux--wine making "homes." | ||||||||||
