QuébecWriting Assignment

In this semester, you are going to prepare a project about a specific topic for each unit. The project will be done in phases throughout the unit with several deadlines in order to help you stay focused and organized. In this unit, your research project is going to be about Québec. You will include the following information about Québec:

  • Québec's province and capital city.
  • Geographical make-up of the area.
  • How many people live there.
  • What the people there do for recreation.
  • What the people do there for a living, in general.
  • Some basics about the current government of Québec.
  • You need to have an essay in English of at least 200 words.
  • You are to find some pictures of either typical or tourist attractions in Québec and make a picture essay complete with captions about what you find. You need to find at least 5 pictures that are representative of different aspects of Québec people or life. You may include one person in your picture essay.

There are four deadlines for the project:

  1. Deadline 1: Your brainstorming and ideas for the project (5 points)
  2. Deadline 2: Your outline (5 points)
  3. Deadline 3: Your rough draft (5 points)
  4. Deadline 4: Final project due. (25 points)

Graded ASsignmentThe second deadline is due now.

Writing PracticeLet's practice more with the contraction we learned in this lesson. Let's say that these items belong to the person or persons indicated, using "de" to show possession. Write the activity in your notebook and then click on the first column to see if you have the correct response.

le crayon / l'étudiante
le stylo / le garçon
les livres / la fille
la maison / la famille
l'appartement / les anglais
le chien / les voisins
le chat / la fille
le frère / l'homme
la mère / les filles

Remember that in French, we cannot say "the girl's cat" because they do not show possession in that way. We have to say "the cat of the girl"--le chat de la fille. We use "de" to show possession in this way and we must now remember to make the contraction if the "de" is followed by "le" or "les."

We have recycled a lot of the vocabulary from past lessons but have also had some new words added to this Section. Try to see how well you know this section's vocabulary in these practice Vocabulary Practiceactivities. You may do these more than once for additional practice.

After you have prepared, you may take the Section One Quiz and then go on to Section Two.
