By this point, you might already realize why there are such differences as what we see in these two examples and what you viewed in presentation at the top of this page. If the noun is preceded by "la", we will need to say "de la" but if it is preceded by "le," we will say "du." This is a contraction in French. Say that the following are far from the other place shown. If the noun begins with a vowel, we use "de l'".
