There is a special group of verbs we need to talk about now. We talked about how the -ar and -er verbs that stem-change in the present tense do NOT stem-change at all in the past tense. For -ir verbs, however, this is not the case. Observa...

Do you see how these change? The spelling change only happens in the third person forms. And the stem-change is only e -- i. Other verbs that are like this: pedir, divertirse, despedirse, preferir.

But wait. There's more. There is another group of these kinds of verbs. These change o-ue in the present tense.

There are only two of these: dormir and morir. Notice that the change is from o-u, not o-ue.
