Beantworte die Fragen mit den neuen Vokabeln. Klicke auf die Frage und du siehst eine richtige Antwort.

Wann wirst du studieren?
Wann hast du studiert?
Wann hast du die Großeltern besucht?
Wann gehst du in den Zoo?
Wann warst du in Kanada?
Wann bist du nach Hause gegangen?

You do not have to have the exact answers as above, but you must have something in the same time frame. If the question asks you, "When did you go home?" you cannot say, "I went home tomorrow." Be sure that you are using a word in the correct time frame.

graded assignment Mündliche Aufgabe

Prepare a recording for your teacher talking about what you are going to do sometime in the future. Use the time expressions on this page in your recording. (Remember: when you use a time expression, you may use the present tense instead of the future.) You need at least four sentences in this part of the recording. When you have finished with the future segment, prepare a second section talking about what you did yesterday, the day before yesterday, last week, and two months ago. You should have another four sentences. (Remember: in conversation, the present perfect tense is used more than the imperfect.) Diese Aufgabe hat 16 Punkte.

graded assignment Das Projekt

In this Unit you have learned about several different leisure time activities German-speaking people like to do. Germany hosts the World Cup in Summer 2006, welcoming professional teams from all over the world to participate in the king of all soccer tournaments. In this web search, you will learn some vocabulary to help you talk about Germany's most popular sport. 15 Punkte.

First, let's "play" with some vocabulary! Go to http://german.about.com/library/blsport_fussb.htm

  1. Wer steht auf dem Spielplatz? Identify these key "players" on the soccer field with their English equivalents:
    1. der Angreifer
    2. der Verteidiger
    3. der Torwart
    4. der Schiedsrichter
    5. der Gegner

  2. You'll also be sure to find one or more of these at every game. What do they mean in English?
    1. der Anhänger
    2. der Hooligan
    3. der Joker
    4. der Leitwolf

  3. Who is "der Kaiser?"

  4. How many ways are there to say "kick" in German? Write them here:

  5. As you have surely learned by this point in your German studies, the language is full of compound nouns - 2 or more nouns (or nouns combined with verbs or adjectives) put together to form a new noun. Sometimes these can get very long, but if you can break down a word into its separate components, you can usually figure out what it means. Here are some soccer compound nouns with three components each. See if you can figure out what they mean without looking at the glossary! Break each word into its individual components, and then write the English meaning.
    1. Fallrückzieher: ________ + ________ + ________ = _______________
    2. Flugkopfball: ________ + ________ + ________ = _______________
    3. Halbzeitpause: ________ + ________ + ________ = _______________
    4. Mittelfeldspieler: ________ + ________ + ________ = _______________

  6. Find at least three (3) more compound nouns in the soccer glossary and write them out below, following the example above:

  7. Many nouns can also be derived from verbs. Look at the following soccer terms and their infinitive counterparts. Use the glossary to help you write the English meaning of each of the verbs, then use your powers of "language logic" to write the meaning of the infinitive.
    1. der Angriff _______________ angreifen _______________
    2. der Einwurf _______________ einwerfen _______________
    3. die Mauer _______________ mauern _______________
    4. der Rauswurf _______________ rauswerfen _______________
    5. der Schuss _________________ schiessen _______________
    6. der Sieg _________________ siegen _______________

With two exceptions, the nouns above are derived from strong verbs, which means there is a vowel change. It's also important to note that most nouns derived from verbs are masculine.

game Wasn't that fun? It's a good way to build your vocabulary. Try matching some more noun/verb pairs in this activity: Matchword
