Munich's City Hall The Glockenspiel on the tower
of Munich's City Hall

The 279 ft tower houses a Glockenspiel consisting of 43 bells. The chimes of the Glockenspiel sound daily at 11:00 am (also at 12:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm from May to October). The figures of the Glockenspiel dance to the folk music played by the chimes, showing scenes from late gothic and renaissance Munich: The wedding of Duke Wilhelm V and Renata von Lothringen (1568) and a jousting tournament in which the Bavarian knight triumphs over the Austrian knight. The second scene is the Schaefflertanz, a folk dance that was first performed by barrel makers (Schaeffler) to celebrate the end of the plague which hit Munich between 1515 and 1517. After the 15 minute performance, there is a golden rooster on the top of the Glockenspiel that crows, flapping his wings.

Schreibaufgabe

In this written assignment, you are going to prepare an interview talking about houses. If you have someone you can interview in German, please do that, but if you are taking this course alone and you don't have access to someone who knows German, you will have to create a "pretend" interview.

For the assignment, compose 12 questions that you can ask someone about their house or chores. Ask questions such as "Where is your living room?" Your questions cannot be simply "yes/no" questions. Record the responses of the person you interview (or you will have to make up the responses in the event that you do not have a German speaker around to interview). Make sure that you write both the questions and responses in complete sentences. Include some verbs in the past tense. This assignment is worth 20 points.
