Section One - Part A
Willkommen! Das Thema für Lektion 10 ist Die Schule und Pflichten

Foto aus dem aktuellen Musical "Flower Power": Heinz Rautmann Schüler vom Gymnasium Salzgitter-Bad in Niedersachsen The structure of the school day in a German Gymnasium often resembles more the type of schedule an American student might have in college. Students don't necessarily have the same classes every day, and if a class doesn't meet, then that hour becomes a free period. The school day typically ends around 1:00, so students can go home for lunch. Therefore most schools have no meal facilities. On certain days, however, depending on their course selections, students may have a class that meets in the afternoon. While academics are very important in a Gymnasium, and preparation for the exit exam - das Abitur - is a student's main focus from their 5th through (in most areas) 13th school years, non-academic courses such as drama, choir and orchestra are also highly valued activities.
