Section One - Part C

ActivityYou should have practiced the vocabulary many times so that by now you are becoming familiar with what the words mean in German. If you have not, please do go back to Section 1, Part A and do that before you go on.

Key ConceptYou may have noticed that some of the expressions in talking about the weather have "Es ist..." in front of them. Some of them look different, in that they say "Es regnet". The difference is that you can use Es ist + an adjective to describe what the weather is like, as in Es ist warm, or "It is warm". You can also use an action verb like regnen (to rain) to describe what the weather is doing, as in Es regnet, which is also a complete sentence meaning "It is raining".

Es ist wolkig.

Es ist schlecht. Es ist schön.
  Es regnet. Es ist warm.
    Es ist sonnig.
    Die Sonne scheint.

der Schnee

The last two pictures give you a couple of nouns. You might say Der Regen ist schlecht or Der Schnee ist kalt.
