Let's go back to Munich There are many interesting sites to see while you are visiting Munich, including the beautiful city hall in Marienplatz with its famous glockenspiel whose jousting knights depict part of the story of Munich's history. Be there at noon each day to enjoy the show! The Viktualienmarkt (“victuals market”), one of the largest open-air markets in Europe, offers everything from the freshest fruits, vegetables and flowers to meats, cheeses, eggs and butter, honey, spices, wines, teas and more. At Olympic Park you can visit the site of the 1972 summer Olympic Games which were marred by international tragedy when 11 Israeli athletes were assassinated by Palestinian terrorists. A popular destination for tourists is the Hofbräuhaus, which was founded in 1589 as a private brewery for the royal family, and is now a famous beer hall, complete with “oompah” bands and wait staff in traditional Bavarian costumes of Dirndlkleider and Lederhosen. Munich is also rich in museums, art galleries and theaters—something for everyone!
