Project AssignmentLe Projet
In this Unit, your project is going to be a personal project. You will prepare an essay/photo essay talking about the activities that you do in a typical day. You must choose 12 activities that you do in a day's time (using vocabulary from this unit or previous units). You will talk about how frequently or on what days you do these activities, with whom, where, and if possible, why. You need to have pictures of the activities. They do not have to be pictures of yourself doing them--they can be clip-art. Your essay will be comprised of captions in French about the activities you choose. Each caption must have at least four sentences and each sentence must have at least 4 words. Again, these are the guidelines you should keep in mind as you begin the project. This project is to be done in French.

  • 12 activities represented in pictures of activities you do in a typical day
  • how frequently you do those activities
  • on what day you do those activities
  • with whom you do these activities
  • where you do these activities (at school, at home, etc.)
  • if possible, why you do these activities

The project will have four deadlines:

  1. Deadline 1: Ideas (5 points)
  2. Deadline 2: Outline (5 points)
  3. Deadline 3: Rough draft (5 points)
  4. Deadline 4: Final project: (25 points)

The third deadline is due now. This assignment is worth 5 points.

CultureDes mots apparentés
We have been learning about words that are known as cognates. These are words that look alike in two languages and share the same meaning.

The cognates we are going to learn in this unit end in -ate in English. Generally, these words just end in -er in French. Look at the examples.

décorer to decorate
donner to donate

CultureQu'est-ce qu'on fait?
If you were in France, you would have a wide variety of activities that you might be able to do in your free time. There are many public parks and lots of museums in addition to the many attractions that Paris offers.

You might go to the Louvre, the world famous art museum. You could also go stroll down the Champs-Elysées, the tree-lined avenue in Paris where there is lots of exclusive shopping. You could visit the Tour Eiffel or any of the other well known and commonly visited places. With so many interesting places to visit, one would never get bored in Paris.

Many enjoy simply strolling through the city and getting to know its many personalities. The views from the different bridges that cross the Seine river in the city are absolutely beautiful, as are the bridges themselves, as you can see in this picture.

Discussion AssignmentTable de Communication
Go to the discussion area and submit a posting asking at least four questions using this unit's vocabulary, talking about sports and activities in French. While you are there, take time to respond to two posts by some other student. If there are no other posts at this point, visit the area later to respond to two questions. This assignment is worth 16 points.
