CultureLa salle de bains
When you visit another country, especially if that is a country where English is not the language of the people, you are wise to learn a few phrases before you go. One such very useful phrase is "Where is the restroom?"

La salle de bains is the word generally used for the bathroom in your home. If you are out on the street and need a restroom, you would ask for les toilettes or le WC (water closet). It is almost universal to look for the image of the lady in the skirt or the man and know that there is where the restrooms are.

In many French-speaking countries, there is a person dispensing toilet paper and paper towels in the restroom for a tip. This ensures a well-kept restroom.
