Task
Complete 1.05 Alabama Food Web Project.
- Using the websites below as well as other sites you find or that your teacher provides, search for examples of food webs and food chains.
- After researching food webs and food chains, build a fictional Alabama ecosystem food web. You may use Word or another program that you are familiar with. Your food web must contain the following:
- At least four producers, 3 primary consumers, 2 secondary consumers, 1 tertiary consumer, and 1 decomposer.
- Arrows that show the direction of the energy flow.
- The common name and the scientific name (genus species) for each animal.
- Labels on each organism as producer, consumer, or decomposer.
- Labels on each consumer as herbivore, omnivore, or carnivore.
- Two examples of competition in your food web.
- A Works Cited page that lists all of the sources you used in creating the food web. Read MLA Citations - Instructions and Adding Images for more information on Works Cited for outside information and images.
- Here are some additional suggestions and directions:
- Suggestion- Create a presentation, as it is easier to move around.
- Suggestion- Use an Internet search engine to start with a producer. Find out what eats them--this will get you to the next trophic level. Then, find out what eats these producers--this will get you some more primary consumers. Then find out what eats these primary producers. This process will take you on and up the pyramid.
- Suggestion- If using PowerPoint, use 3 slides--one for introduction (your name, task number, etc.), one for your web, and the last one for a works cited page. You should be able to get your entire food web on one slide.
- Directions- Be sure your arrows are indicating the proper energy flow, such as producer to primary consumer. You may have several arrows both vertical and at various angles. Don't forget to have the tertiary animal's (top of the pyramid) arrow directed toward a decomposer.
- Directions- Put an image of each organism in the appropriate place, under or beside the image. Place the appropriate information in this order:
- common name
- scientific name (genus species)
- producer, type of consumer, or decomposer
- herbivore, omnivore, or carnivore
- Directions- Be sure to list 2 examples of competitive organisms. These would be organisms that are after the same resource.
- Submit your completed assignments.
