New Deal Programs

Roosevelt did not have one particular strategy to fix the economy.  He, along with his cabinet and trusted advisors, known as the "Brain Trust," would simply try out programs.  Those that worked were kept, those that did not were scrapped and replaced with another.  The agencies and legislation that became part of the New Deal were later referred to as alphabet agencies.  Agencies were developed based on relief, recovery, and reform of the economy.  They employed millions, completed thousands of public work projects, and changed the way the American public thought about the federal government.
