One of the most memorable events from the Birmingham campaign was the arrest of Dr. King on April 12, 1963. While in jail, King spent time developing a written response to critics who had argued that his protests were “unwise and untimely”. His response was eventually published and helped explain to many the rationale and philosophy behind the Civil Rights movement.
