The 1968 Presidential Election occurred during one of the most turbulent years in American history. It followed the assassinations of two well-known American figures, occurred in the shadow of Vietnam, and came in the wake of a particularly violent Democratic Convention. The political ads for the various presidential candidates captured this volatility as each candidate attempted to appeal to the emotions of the American voter. For this task, review some of the ads from the 1968 election and determine what causes, issues, and political strategies were the most effective during the campaign. 1) Go to Living Room Candidate: 1968 Nixon vs. Humphrey vs. Wallace. Complete 13.01 Court Case Discussion. During the 1960s and 1970s, several landmark decisions were made by the U.S. Supreme Court. Each ruling left a lasting impact on society at large. 1) Choose one of the court cases listed below to study more closely. 2) Take notes of the key issues and arguments in the case, the ruling by the Court, and the effect the decision had on society. 3) Present these key points to the class. You must share several sentences that adequately address the major details of the case. You should also include your own thoughts: do you agree or disagree with the court's decision?
