Though Nixon focused extensively on foreign policy issues as president, he had a strong domestic policy agenda as well. As a fiscal conservative, Nixon strove to reduce government spending, while also ensuring government assistance was extended to America's poor. However, it was the nation's poor economy and issues of equality that ultimately defined Nixon's domestic agenda in office.
