Eisenhower's Foreign Policy
President Eisenhower assumed office in 1953 in the midst of the Cold War. While Eisenhower continued many of the policies of his predecessor, he also instituted a new approach to the Soviet Union known as brinkmanship. While brinkmanship brought the United States dangerously close to nuclear war, it also forced the Soviets to stall their aggressive pursuits.
