Did you know that Dr. Seuss wrote a book about the nuclear arms race? Though the book uses quirky characters and children's language, it tackles the issue of nuclear war in a way that has often sparked controversy. When asked about including such a heavy topic in a children's book, Dr. Seuss replied, "I thought it might be too much, but evidently it isn't...Given a certain amount of vocabulary, I think kids can comprehend anything. As far as the ending goes, I think kids can argue about it" (from "The Political Dr. Seuss" by Haley Wood).
