1) Examine the map below of an area of Birmingham, AL. Assume Point A is the origin of the coordinate plane with the coodinates (0,0). Point B has coordinates (7, 3) and Point D has coordinates (7, 0).

2) Determine the distance from Point A to Point C and from Point C to Point B. Hint: count the units.

3) Determine the distance between Point A and Point B. Hint: use the Pythagorean Theorem.

4) Compose a response to the following question: If you were trying to get from A to B, would it be shorter to walk through C or walk directly from A to B? Explain your reasoning.

5) Post your answers to #2, 3, and 4 to 3.06 The Shortest Path Discussion.

6) Read your classmates' posts and respond to at least two postings. In your response, state whether you agree with their answer or not and provide reasoning.
