Introduction
In this lesson, you will use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve various real world applications. You will be able to see how applicable this theorem is for many different situations. For example, suppose you wanted to load a lawnmover onto a truck and you need to know how long the ramp should be so the incline isn't so steep.
You will need to have a calculator handy while you complete this lesson. You can use the calculator on the computer, one of your own, or this Web 2.0 Scientific Calculator.
Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Use congruence criteria to solve problems in geometric figures.
- Use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve right triangles in applied problems.
The above objectives correspond with the Alabama Course of Study: Geometry Standard: 21.
This lesson incorporates the following Literacy Standards: R2, R8, R10, W1, & W4.
