Crime Scene

There are many types of criminal investigations, and each crime scene is unique. However, all crime scene investigations have the same purpose. The purpose of criminal investigation can be divided into 3 goals:

1. determine that a crime has been committed
2. find, collect, and analyze evidence
3. try to identify suspect(s)

Different types of criminal investigations need to be utilized for different crime scenes. The type of investigation used depends on the crime.

For example, different techniques will be used to investigate homicides, vandalism, robbery, arson, etc.

After a body has been discovered, a police officer is sent to the crime sceneAreas where evidence can be obtained to help explain events. Sometimes there are multiple crime scenes involved in one crime.. This officer is known as the first officer first responder on the scene.The first responder has many important jobs to do while waiting for the rest of the crime scene team.

The first officer must first check the victim and make sure they do not need medical attention. Saving lives is their major priority even if contamination of the crime scene occurs. The word ADAPT helps first officers on the scene remember the role they play in the investigation.

D Detain the witness need these guys for questioning

A Arrest the perpetrator many times they will hang around to admire their handy work

P Protect the crime scene this is where the yellow tape comes in

T Take notes notes are very important especially when the case goes to court
