Summary

While the American Dream may have started with the Declaration of Independence, it certainly did not end there.  It is has grown throughout our history and can be seen in art, literature, and movies to this day.  Throughout this course, we will see how the American Dream has been present in our society.

Submit your completed 1.01 Study Guide to the 1.01 Study Guide Dropbox.

Think about recent movies you have watched or books you have read.  In what ways have you seen the idea of the American Dream present in these movies or books?  In a well-written paragraph of at least 6-8 sentences, discuss how you have seen the American Dream portrayed in a specific work.  Be sure to include the title of the movie or book you are using for the discussion and include examples from the work as support.  Avoid the use of sentence fragments, abbreviations, and usage errors. Use the 1.01 Paragraph Rubric for additional help.   Submit your paragraph to the 1.01 American Dream in Modern Works Dropbox.

Review Jefferson’s list of grievances in the Declaration of Independence.  Which grievances are the most insufferable?  Provide your list of grievances in a paragraph and explain why you feel these grievances are the most insufferable.  Then, respond to at least one classmate's submission by comparing your lists and discussing similarities and differences.  Post your response to the 1.01 Insufferable Grievances Discussion.
