When you think of tragedy, what comes to mind? You may think it a tragedy when your team loses a ballgame or you do not get a part in a play. Others may have experienced significant loss in their lifetime, so tragedy may mean the loss of a family member. When speaking of tragedy in literary terms, the definition is:
A serious play in which the chief character, by some peculiarity of psychology, passes through a series of misfortunes leading to a final, devastating catastrophe.
