Specialized terms exist in everything we do (and everything that we read).

For example, if you are looking to get the newest DLC for your video game, you must know how much data space you need. You might need to clear 2 gigs of space in order to get the newest map pack. Do these terms sound familiar to you? If you play videogames, then you are familiar with this terminology. If not, then the previous paragraph may have confused you.

The point is that there are terms you must know in order to have a better understanding of what you are doing (and what you are reading).

At the end of this lesson, students will:

  • Use specialized literary terms.
  • Apply knowledge of terminology specific to a genre by creating their own piece of literature.
  • Demonstrate a command of the English language through the use of correct grammar in their writing.
  • Use reference sources to determine the meaning of words.
