Now that you have read Emerson's extended definition of self–reliance and created examples of what it means to be self–reliant in 3.02 “Self–Reliance” Discussion, it is time to create the perfect self–reliant person. Create a PowerPoint presentation in which you create a person who has the personality traits laid out in Emerson's essay “Self-Reliance.”

  • This PowerPoint should include one slide with a picture of a person: a famous person, a family member, or an image of a person who just exudes self–reliance to you. Give your person a name.
  • On the next five to seven slides, include five to seven character traits or examples of self–reliance according to Emerson's definition from the essay.
  • The traits or examples should be explained in complete sentences. You may use aphorisms or quotations from “Self–Reliance.” Example 1Self–reliant means being independent financially, emotionally, and physically., Example 2“Whosoever would be a man, must be a nonconformist.”
