Complete 4.03 Poetic Language. Choose a familiar topic that could become a "monster" to teens. Brainstorm the language related to the topic and create a poem using the language of teenagers. Your poem should be anywhere from 5 to 20 lines.

Complete 4.03 Tone. Using the same tone as "Abandoned Farmhouse," write another stanza or more describing what happened to the family.

Journal Prompt:

Select a tone from the list below. Then, write a short poem about a person traveling to a sporting event.

When you finish, submit your writing to the 4.03 Journal Discussion.

Next, choose one of your classmate's poems to read and comment on what you think the tone is that he or she chose. After someone responds to your own poem, respond back to that person letting him or her know the correct answer. If your classmate chose the incorrect tone, use evidence from your poem to show the tone you were portraying.
