review Wiederholung - Passiv oder Konjunktiv?

We don't want you to confuse the Passiv and Konjunktiv, both of which use a form of werden as the helping verb.

Das Passiv is used to show something is being (was, has been, must be,…) done.
It uses the appropriate tense of werden conjugated, with the past participle at the end.
          The boar must be caught.           Das Wildschwein muss gefangen werden.
          The boar will be caught.             Das Wildschwein wird gefangen werden.
          The boar is being caught.            Das Wildschwein wird gefangen.
          The boar was caught.                 Das Wildschwein wurde gefangen.
          The boar has been caught.         Das Wildschwein ist gefangen worden.

Das Konjunktiv is used to show that something "would" happen or "would have" happened. There are really only 2 tenses. The usual forms are:

a) "would" würden + infinitive
He would catch the boar. Er würde das Wildschein fangen.
b) "would have" hätte/wäre + participle.
He would have caught the boar. Er hätte das Wildschwein gefangen.


c) There are specific forms for haben, sein, and the modals
"would be" wäre
"would have" hätte
"would be able to" könnte
"would have to" müsste
"would be allowed to" dürfte
"would like to" möchte
"would want to" wollte
"would be supposed to/should" sollte
