Où est-ce que tu le mets? Parlons d'où nous mettons les différentes choses dans nos maisons. Regarde les exemples en bleu et puis réponds aux questions. Clique sur la question pour voir une réponse possible. (Let's talk about where we put things in our homes. Look at the examples and then see if you can answer the questions that follow. Click on the question to see a possible response.)
Were you able to do that with ease? Do you remember these-- le, la, les? They are direct object pronouns. They replace direct object nouns. We use them as shortcuts to not have to talk about the item using its name. Où est-ce que tu mets le four? (Where do you put the oven?) Je le mets dans la cuisine. (I put it in the kitchen.) Remember that we choose which direct object pronoun to use (me, te, le, la, nous, vous, les) based on the gender and number of the object we want to replace. Remember that the direct object pronoun is placed in front of the noun in French. What happens when the sentence is negative? Je ne le mets pas dans la cuisine. Je ne t'écoute pas. You see that the direct object pronoun still goes directly in front of the verb when the sentence is negative.
