Task

Let's reflect on what you've studied about the Age of Exploration and the Spanish conquests of the Americas. We've learned about the developments that led to exploration, and in this lesson, we have specifically considered the issues related to spreading Christianity to these new lands. As you read the two documents (The Requirement and Montesino's sermon), you were asked to think about the notion of "the sword and the cross" and how it most directly impacted the lives of the men, women, and children living in the lands that were being occupied by the Spanish conquistadors. In the following activity, you have the opportunity discuss how you might have reacted to these people coming into your land.

So, here's your assignment. Assume you are a Native American who has been placed under Spanish domination. Write a letter to the king of Spain and describe how your life has changed since their arrival. Be specific. Identify where you are from and be sure to date your letter. Use 1.06 A Native American's POV as a template for your letter.

Submit your completed work to the 1.06 A Native American's POV Dropbox.

Once you are ready, go to Quizzes and take the Unit 1 Europe Map Quiz.
