Introduction

In the previous lesson, we analyzed the primary reasons European countries began to explore other parts of the world. As you look at the list of reasons for exploration in the Age of Discovery one more time, think about the ones that would have convinced you to leave your home country and risk your life. Would it have been to find wealth and fame, to escape overpopulation and poverty at home, to spread Christianity, or another reason?

Reasons for Exploration
New Technologies
Strong Monarchs
Economic Policies
Wealth and Fame
Problems of Increasing Overpopulation
Expand Trade with Other Nations
Desire to Spread Christianity
