Affirmative action is a set of policies and procedures designed to correct discriminatory practices from the past.  It is not a single federal law, but instead a set of policies and programs designed to correct past discrimination.  Affirmative action programs include special efforts to hire women, minorities, veterans, and people with disabilities.
