Introduction
When you use information from an outside source, like a website or article in AVL, in a report or presentation, you must provide a citation for the information. A citation gives specific information such as who wrote the research and where and when it was published.
Citations in a research paper have to follow a very strict guideline for formatting how they are punctuated, capitalized, underlined and quoted. . Just a few years ago, anyone writing a paper had to use a style manual and type each period, comma and underline. However, that isn't the case any longer. Most word processing applications contain features that create your internal citations. In addition, there are many citation builder web sites that can help you build your citations for a Works Cited page as you will learn throughout this lesson.
