Introduction

A WYSIWYG (pronounced "wiz-ee-wig") editor or program is one that allows a developer to see what the end result will look like while the web page is being created. WYSIWYG is an acronym for "what you see is what you get." A WYSIWYG editor, sometimes called a visual editor, is different from a traditional editor that requires the developer to manually enter code and does not permit an immediate way to see the results. There are many WYSIWIG editors on the market, including the popular Adobe Dreamweaver, CoffeeCup HTML Editor, and Microsoft Expression Web.

In this course, you will use KompoZer to build web pages. KompoZer is a powerful WYSIWIG web editor used by both novice and experienced web designers. KompoZer allows the user to create web pages without writing HTML code, but still allows the advanced web designer to make HTML code changes. It is easy to use and, best of all, it's free!

Note: As of September 2020, KompoZer is not compatible with the most recent Mac OS. Mac users may choose to install SeaMonkey instead. While the course will use KompoZer as the demo, the two interfaces are very similar. We will provide SeaMonkey instructions as well.
