As president, Bush consciously embraced a less conservative agenda than his predecessor Ronald Reagan. He supported several bi-partisan efforts such as environmental causes and legislation to protect the rights of the disabled and minorities in America. Bush embraced his role in international matters as well and helped to oversee the end of the Cold War and the Persian Gulf War in the Middle East.
