African Americans and women found new opportunities in the U.S. workplace as the arms industry became number one worldwide. While war brought devastation to much of Europe and Asia as battles were fought and towns were ravaged, changes in the U.S. were generally positive. A vast majority of Americans rallied behind the war effort. Manufacturing for the war effort created almost 19 million jobs, thus, revitalizing the economy and pulling the U.S. out of the Great Depression.
