President Nixon had a keen interest in foreign policy and was determined as president to leave his mark on international affairs. Together with his National Security Advisor, Henry Kissinger, the pair effectively initiated change in U.S. foreign policy. During the Nixon administration, relations with China were officially established, Soviet tensions thawed considerably, and a peaceful end to the war in Vietnam was pursued.
