Task
Assessment #1
How would you classify Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft) or Steve Jobs (founder of Apple)? Are they Captains of Industry or Robber Barons? Each were very successful, made great fortunes, developed businesses, and became leaders of their respective industry. Time will tell how history judges them. The same is true of the Gilded Age business leaders you learned about in this lesson. 1) Take a look at the primary source material document that includes information about Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller. 2) Using the information from the primary sources, complete 1.05 Industry Leaders to determine whether or not you deem Carnegie and Rockefeller Captains of Industry or Robber Barons-or both! Support your answer with facts from the sources. 3) Submit your completed work to the 1.05 Industry Leaders Dropbox. Assessment #2
In the previous assessment you examined two political cartoons that reflected popular opinion about the leadership of Carnegie and Rockefeller during the Gilded Age. For this task, you will be responsible for creating a political cartoon of your own that reflects a topic from the lesson. Before you begin, look back through links found in the Learn section to review some examples of political cartoons from the Gilded Age. 1) Choose one of the following aspects of this lesson:
2) Create your cartoon idea. Your cartoon should clearly communicate a perspective on one of the topics and include a title or caption that helps to explain the message of the cartoon. 3) Use Comic Creator to help you create your final product. (You do not need a log-in for this program.) 4) Create a title for your cartoon. 5) Select your number of panels (1-6). 6) Build your political cartoon. 7) Once complete, click "Finish." 8) Click "Print," but instead of sending it to the printer, save the cartoon as a PDF or take a screenshot of your comic and save it to your computer. 9) Submit the cartoon to 1.05 Political Cartoon Dropbox. |
