2. Answer the questions to the right of the video as you watch.

4. Complete the document analysis at the end by highlighting, making notes, and answering the question as you analyze each document. You may want to watch the "how to" video on analyzing documents as a refresher from the beginning of the unit.

5. Choose Save, Print, Send and create a PDF. Save a copy.

Who Discovered America?

Now that you have reviewed the various groups and people that traveled to the Americas, it is time for you to decide who actually deserves credit for discovering America. Traditionally, Columbus is given credit for the discovery; we have Columbus Day, many cities are named for him, etc. However, as you have learned, he was not the first to arrive here. With that in mind, answer the discussion question below:

Who should be given credit for discovering America?
Columbus, the Vikings, or the Native Americans

  • Post your thoughts on the 1.03 Who Discovered America Discussion. Your response should be approximately 3-4 sentences in length and should be supported by facts as well as your opinion.


  • You should respond to the thoughts of at least one classmate with whom you agree by writing at least 2 sentences explaining why you agree with his or her post. Share an additional reason for your support that is not mentioned in their post.


  • In addition, you should respond to the thoughts of at least one classmate with whom you disagree by writing at least 2 sentences explaining why you disagree with his or her post. Be respectful and have evidence to support your statements.
