Most of you have probably communicated online before. However, emails and discussions for class follow some different rules than Instagram and SnapChat. Here are our netiquette expectations for ACCESS courses.

  • Remember that real people, not computers, read your emails and comments.  Do not say anything that you would not say in person.
  • Use proper grammar and capitalization. Proofread all postings before submitting.  D2L does have a built-in spell-check. Avoid using abbreviations and foul language.
  • Avoid using all capital letters. Though some people use all caps to show excitement, it can also be seen as shouting. Instead, to emphasize a word or thought, use bold.
  • Don’t expect instant responses from classmates and teachers. They aren’t ignoring you. They just may not be online at the same time as you.
  • Remember that your teacher and classmates cannot not see your face or hear your tone of voice. Be careful when using humor and sarcasm.

Your posts and emails in ACCESS represent YOU.  Be the best version of yourself in all ways possible.  Go the extra mile to be a great member of your ACCESS course.
