In this next lesson, you will read a short story that has something to do with the elderly, moustaches, and mistaken identity. Moustache is the preferred spelling outside the United States. Robert Cormier lived in Leominster, Massachusetts his whole life. You can come up with your own conclusion to the added o in his short story.
Cormier was inspired by his son to write this story. His son, Peter, went to visit his grandmother in the local nursing home in his town. When he returned from his visit, Peter was noticeably upset. Peter’s grandmother was unresponsive. She didn’t know who he was, and she didn’t communicate with him. Thus, the inspiration of the two main characters in “The Moustache.”
