3.02 Punishment Discussion

The role of punishment is controversial. Although punishment can end bad behavior quickly, some psychologists believe that it has negative long term consequences. The arguments against the use of punishment are that it does not teach appropriate positive behavior, it tends to work only if it is delivered right after the behavior, it may be imitated as a way of dealing with problems and it creates anger and hostility.

• In at least three complete sentences explain on the 3.02 Punishment Discussion what form of punishment you would use in raising a child. Or if you would not use punishment, how would you eliminate unwanted behavior?
• Respond in two complete sentences to a classmate whose view you agree with and explain why you agree.
• Respond in two complete sentences to a classmate whose view you disagree with and explain why you disagree.
