Task

Part A - Nutrition Value

Using the NutritionValue.org Nutrition Calculator, enter everything you eat for one day. You may use the food intake submitted in the 1.01 24 Hour Food Journal or complete a new daily list. Measurements should be taken after cooking, if the food needs to be cooked.

Here are simple ways to measure the amount of food using body parts.

  • Closed Hand or Fist = 1 cup of fruit or 1 medium whole, raw fruit
  • Cupped Open Hand = 1 or 2 ounces of dry goods (nuts, cereal, pretzels)
  • Thumb = 1 ounce of cheese or meat
  • Fingertip = Approximately 1 teaspoon
  • Tip of Thumb = Approximately 1 tablespoon

Report on all foods you ate that day in each food category, including amounts. Just document what you eat normally. Please note that you may have to break down some foods into their components. For example, a ham and cheese wrap may have to be entered as 5 slices of ham, one slice of cheese, and one tortilla. Click add to meal after you find each food.

When you are finished, take a screenshot of your Nutrition Calculator information for the day. Insert the screenshot into 1.05 My Food Intake. You may need several screenshots to include all information. Be sure to include your full list of foods for all meals, scrolling as necessary. See sample Nutrition Value.org Nutrition Calculators screenshots.

Part B - My Daily Plan

Next, go to the Get Your My Plate Daily Plan to evaluate your dietary intake.

  1. Enter the required information (age, gender, height, weight, etc.).
  2. Select Calculate Food Plan.
  3. After you have received your daily calories, scroll down and select the appropriate plan for your age from the table.

When you are finished, take a screenshot of your Daily Plan information. Insert the screenshot into 1.05 My Food Intake. You may need more than one screenshot. Be sure to include your full plan, scrolling as necessary. You may also download, save, and submit the plan.

Part C - Reflection

Compare the results of your daily plan to what you ate. You may want to use the Appendix 7 Daily Nutritional Goals table to compare the values more easily. Evaluate the types of foods you ate against what was recommended. Discuss areas where you might make improvements. Use the website to identify different foods you can eat to meet your intake goals by clicking on Food Groups. Submit your completed work to the 1.05 My Food Intake Dropbox.

*** Future assignments require analysis of nutrient intake. You may use this food list intake for future assignments.
