Throughout this unit, you and a group of your classmates will work together to create a Courts PowerPoint Presentation. The presentation will include information from your research about the landmark cases, Chief Justice, and judicial philosophy of your group's assigned court. The final product will be due at the end of the unit, but each lesson requires certain steps toward the completion of the presentation.

Information for the presentation may be found within the lesson or from outside research. If you include information from outside sources, be sure to include the correct MLA citation information. All information in the presentation should be written in your own words and phrases.

See Unit 6 Courts Project for a complete description of the project.

Group Project Step #1

After your teacher creates groups with assigned courts, go to 6.01 Project Topic Discussion. The first person for each group to post will start a thread for their group with the group name as the Subject. Participate in this thread by replying to the original post for your group. Introduce yourself to your group members (include your name, school, and grade).

Decide as a group who should take on each topic for research and role below.

  • Landmark case research (include the name of your case)
  • Landmark case research (include the name of your case)
  • Chief Justice research
  • Landmark case research (include the name of your case) Groups with four members only

Note: everyone in the group will be researching a topic and completing information for two to three slides on your topic. The roles below are additional work responsibilities:

  • Editor-in-Chief: Responsible for proofreading and compiling the group's work into a final PowerPoint project. The Editor-in-Chief should be someone who enjoys leadership and meets deadlines. The Editor-in-Chief will be responsible for research on his or her individual topic; however, he or she will be exempt from the research on "Judicial Philosophy" and "Overall Importance of the Court" due to extra duties related to compiling individual work into a group presentation.

  • Associate Editor: Responsible for checking the layout for the PowerPoint slides. The Associate Editor should be someone who is organized and has a good sense of design.

  • Discussion Leader: Responsible for communication with the teacher throughout each lesson and for leading all of the group discussions. The Discussion Leader should be someone who feels comfortable communicating with the teacher and with peers.

  • Associate Editor: Responsible for creating the layout for the PowerPoint Slides. The Associate Editor should be someone who is organized and has a good sense of design. Associate Editor will be assigned in groups with four members only.
