Now, take it a step further. Look at the sentences below. What do you notice?

        Ich brauche ein Buch zum Lesen (for reading).

        Ich brauche einen Bleistift zum Schreiben (for wiriting).

        Ich brauche ein Glas zum Trinken (for drinking).

If you want to use something for an action, you say zum + Verb. (Notice that the verb is capitalized.)
