Introduction

Look at the happy couple!

Bernadette is paying attention, but Bernard is not.
Bernard does not like his suit, but Bernadette loves her dress.
Bernadette reminds Bernard not to chew on his tie!
“Let’s not have a wedding cake,” Bernard says. “Let’s have a wedding steak!”
Although the bride and groom have their differences, Bernard assures Bernadette, “I could not love you more!”

As you can see, not all sentences will be affirmative. Sometimes, we need to express our thoughts and ideas through negative sentences. However, just because a sentence is negative doesn’t mean that the idea will be negative. It simply means that the sentence will include words such as not, never, no longer, or nothing.

In this lesson, you will review how to form a negative sentence in French, and you will also learn a few new negative expressions.

Lesson Objectives

Following successful completion of this lesson, students will be able to...

  • Form negative sentences using various negative expressions
